Gas Pipeline Components

The Yallourn Gas Pipeline consists of the following components:

  • An off-take from the Longford to Dandenong Gas Transmission Pipeline
  • A custody transfer meter & communications hut 
  • Pig launcher and fenced compound at the tie-in location
  • A buried cross country gas transmission pipeline of approximately 500mm diameter, 8km in length and up to 10.2 MPa, including
    • a directional drilled crossing of the Latrobe River
    • bored road and pipeline crossings
    • an end point at the gas-fired power station
  • Gas conditioning & pig receiver facilities Design life will be 30 years

Proposed Pipeline Route

The proposed gas pipeline route is located on Crown land and EA owned land, largely within road reserves. This route has been selected to minimise impacts on private property and the environment, while limiting route length and ensuring acceptable constructability.

Timing and Next Steps

Key activities and indicative timing for the Yallourn Gas Pipeline are:

 May-June 2026Approval of the Pipeline Consultation Plan
 June-July 2026Environmental assessments including field surveys and engagement with landowners
 From August 2026Preparation and submission of the Pipeline Licence Application

EA will work closely with landowners and occupiers to agree on land access conditions and manage survey work. Once EA has submitted an application to construct and operate a pipeline, a Notice of Pipeline application and details on how to provide a submission will be published.
